§ 16705 School Facility Funding Priority

Key Takeaways

  • •Schools in cities with old buildings or too many students get money first for repairs or new buildings.
  • •The more crowded or run-down a school is, the sooner it gets help.
  • •Schools in packed neighborhoods get extra attention for fixes or upgrades.

Example

A school in a big city has very old classrooms and too many kids in each class.

This school would get money faster than others to fix the buildings or add more classrooms because it’s overcrowded and the buildings are old.

§ 16705 School Facility Funding Priority

The board by the adoption of rules shall give priority in allocating funds to urban districts to those districts where the children will benefit most from schoolhouse facilities. This priority shall be based upon the age of existing buildings and the acuteness of overcrowding at the school or schools where the construction or reconstruction will occur, the density of population in the attendance areas affected, or any other factors that will insure that the greatest need will be served. (Added by Stats. 1996, Ch. 277, Sec. 2. Effective January 1, 1997. Operative January 1, 1998.)
