§ 16150 District Boundary Reorganization Dates

This law tells you which date is used to decide school funding when district borders change, and it treats the district that gains land (acquiring district) differently from the district that loses land (original district).

Key Takeaways

  • •“Acquiring district” is the district that gets new land; “original district” is the one that loses land.
  • •The effective date for funding depends on which district you are – acquiring districts use the date set in Sections 35532‑35533, original districts use the date set in Section 35534.
  • •Original districts can’t receive new conditional funding after a re‑organization unless their governing board approves an application.

Example

District X takes a piece of District Y’s area after a boundary change.

For District X (the acquiring district), the funding date follows the rules in Sections 35532 and 35533. For District Y (the original district), the funding date follows the rules in Section 35534, and District Y can’t get new conditional funding after the change unless its board approves it.
