§ 15303 County School District Activation

This law says a county can only use the school facilities improvement district rules after its board of supervisors votes to turn those rules on.

Key Takeaways

  • •The chapter doesn’t work in a county until the board of supervisors adopts a resolution.
  • •A simple majority of the supervisors must vote in favor.
  • •The resolution can apply to the whole county or just certain school or community‑college districts.
  • •After voting, the resolution must be filed with the California Debt and Investment Advisory Commission.

Example

A county wants to build a new high school using a school facilities improvement district, but the rule isn’t active yet.

The county’s board of supervisors must first pass a resolution agreeing to use the law, and then file that resolution with the state agency before the district can be created.
