§ 1040 County Education Board Duties

This law tells county school boards what they have to do each year, like making rules, keeping notes, and approving money plans.

Key Takeaways

  • •The board must write its own rules that don’t clash with state law.
  • •It has to keep a written record of what it does.
  • •It must approve the superintendent’s yearly school budget before sending it to the county supervisors.
  • •It must also approve the yearly school service fund budget before sending it to the state superintendent.
  • •It must look at the annual audit report at a regular public meeting.

Example

The county school board meets in the spring to look at the money plan the county superintendent made for the schools.

At that meeting they check the budget, make sure it follows state law, and then give it the okay before sending it to the county supervisors and the state education chief.
