§ 10003 Employee Status During Secondment

If a university, school district, or community college employee works for another organization for a while, they are still considered an employee of their original school for everything like pay, retirement, and tenure.

Key Takeaways

  • •Employee status does not change when working for another entity under this rule.
  • •Salary continues to come from the original school.
  • •Retirement, tenure, and other job benefits stay the same.

Example

A California State University professor is sent to teach at a nearby community college for a semester.

Even while teaching at the community college, the professor still gets paid by the university, stays in the university's retirement plan, and keeps their tenure rights.
