§ 9332 Corporate Member Designation Rules

Key Takeaways

  • •A company can call people 'members' even if they're not official members under the law.
  • •The company can help or serve people who are not official members, and they can decide what, if anything, those people should pay or give in return.
  • •The rules for what non-members should pay or give can be set by the company's leaders or written in the company's rules.

Example

A local gym calls everyone who signs up a 'member,' even if they don't have voting rights in the gym's decisions.

The gym can still help non-members, like letting a visitor use the facilities for a day pass fee. The gym's leaders decide how much the day pass costs.
