§ 6019 Nonprofit-Business Merger Rules

Key Takeaways

  • •If a nonprofit and a regular company want to merge, they have to follow special rules.
  • •Different types of nonprofits (like charities, clubs, or churches) have their own rules to follow.
  • •The rules make sure everyone agrees and things are done fairly.

Example

A local food bank (a nonprofit) wants to join with a grocery store (a regular company).

They can’t just decide to merge—they have to follow special steps, like getting approval and making sure everything is fair for both sides.
