§ 31411 Franchise Fraud Penalties

Key Takeaways

  • •It's illegal to trick or lie to someone when selling a franchise (like a McDonald's or a 7-Eleven).
  • •If you do this on purpose, you can get fined up to $100,000 or go to jail for up to a year.
  • •This includes any sneaky plans or actions that could fool someone into buying a franchise.

Example

Someone sells you a franchise for a pizza shop but lies about how much money you'll make.

If they knew they were lying and did it on purpose to trick you, they can get in big trouble, like paying a huge fine or going to jail.
