§ 13302 Member Debt Liability Limit

This law says that if a group or club owes money, its members only have to pay up to what they still owe for their membership or shares.

Key Takeaways

  • •Members of a group or club are only responsible for paying what they still owe for their membership or shares.
  • •If you’ve already paid your full membership fee, you don’t have to pay anything extra if the group owes money.
  • •This rule protects members from having to pay more than they agreed to when they joined.

Example

Imagine you join a local club and agree to pay $100 for membership, but you've only paid $60 so far.

If the club owes money to someone, you only have to pay up to the $40 you still owe. You don’t have to pay more than that.
