§ 9513 Consumer Goods Financing Termination

Key Takeaways

  • •If you bought something (like a car or TV) with a loan and paid it off, the lender must file a paper saying the loan is done within 1 month.
  • •If you never agreed to the loan in the first place, the lender must file a paper saying the loan is fake within 20 days if you ask.
  • •If you ask the lender to end the loan paper and there’s no money left to pay, they have 20 days to do it.
  • •Once the paper saying the loan is over is filed, the loan rules don’t apply anymore.

Example

You finish paying off your car loan, but the bank forgets to tell everyone the loan is done.

The bank has to file a paper within 1 month saying you don’t owe money anymore. If they don’t, they’re breaking the rules.
