§ 8414 Lien Enforcement Deadlines

• •If you worked on a building or property but aren't the main contractor, you can ask for money if you weren't paid.
• •You must ask for your money in writing (record a claim) before a certain time runs out.
• •You have to ask before 90 days after the whole job is done, or before 30 days after the owner says the job is done (whichever comes first).
• •If you wait too long, you can't ask for your money anymore.

You helped build a house by painting the walls, but the main contractor didn't pay you.

You have to tell the owner in writing that you want your money before 90 days after the house is fully built. If the owner says the house is done and files a paper saying so, you only have 30 days to ask for your money. If you wait longer, you can't get your money.
