§ 8206 Preliminary Notice Requirements

Key Takeaways

  • •You usually only need to send one notice to the people involved in a project to tell them you're working on it.
  • •If you work for more than one subcontractor on the same project, you must send a separate notice for each one.
  • •One notice covers all the work you do, even if you do more work later or different work than what you described in the notice.

Example

You are a painter working on a house. You are hired by two different subcontractors to paint different parts of the house.

You need to send one notice to the first subcontractor for the work you do for them. Then, you need to send another notice to the second subcontractor for the work you do for them. Even if you paint more rooms later, the first notice covers all the painting you do for the first subcontractor.
