§ 8012 Contractor Definition Scope

Key Takeaways

  • •This law talks about who counts as a 'contractor'—like the main person hired for a job or someone they hire to help.
  • •It includes both the big boss (direct contractor) and the helpers (subcontractors).
  • •This rule doesn’t apply to two other laws: Sections 8018 and 8046.

Example

If you hire someone to fix your roof, and they bring a helper, both the main roofer and the helper are 'contractors' under this law.

This means the law covers both the person you hired directly and anyone they bring in to do part of the job.
