§ 5935 Dispute Resolution Request Process

Key Takeaways

  • •If you have a fight with someone, you can ask them to solve it without going to court by sending them a 'Request for Resolution'.
  • •The request must include what the fight is about, ask for a peaceful solution, and tell them they have 30 days to answer.
  • •If the other person doesn't answer in 30 days, it means they said no to solving the problem peacefully.
  • •You can send the request by mail, email, fax, or any way that makes sure they get it.

Example

You and your neighbor are fighting because their dog keeps digging up your garden.

You can write a letter to your neighbor explaining the problem, asking them to talk it out with you, and telling them they have 30 days to answer. If they don’t answer, you can take other steps to solve the problem.
