§ 5655 Payment Application And Receipts

Key Takeaways

  • •If you owe money to your homeowners association (HOA), your payments go to the main debt first, not extra fees like late charges or lawyer costs.
  • •You can ask for a receipt when you pay, and the HOA must give you one with the date and who took the payment.
  • •The HOA must give you an address to send fast payments, and it has to be in their yearly policy statement.

Example

You owe your HOA $1,000 in fees and $200 in late charges. You pay $500.

The $500 goes toward the $1,000 you owe first, not the $200 late fee. You can also ask for a receipt to prove you paid.
