§ 4710 Homeowner Noncommercial Sign Rights

Key Takeaways

  • •You can put up signs, posters, flags, or banners at your home as long as they’re not for selling stuff.
  • •Your neighborhood rules can’t stop you from doing this unless it’s dangerous or breaks another law.
  • •Your signs or flags can’t be too big—signs and posters can’t be larger than 9 square feet, and flags or banners can’t be larger than 15 square feet.
  • •You can’t use things like lights, plants, or balloons for your signs, and you can’t paint walls or buildings to make them.

Example

You want to put up a big 'Happy Birthday' banner for your kid’s party on the fence outside your house.

You can do this as long as the banner isn’t bigger than 15 square feet and isn’t made of something like lights or balloons. Your neighborhood can’t stop you unless it’s unsafe or against another rule.
