§ 2138 Consignee Freight Payment Liability

• •Simply receiving the goods isn’t enough; you need to know the payment expectation.
• •If you don’t want to pay, you should make it clear before accepting the shipment.

A store orders toys from a supplier in another city. The supplier ships the toys and tells the store that the store must pay the shipping fee. The store receives the toys and knows the shipping fee is supposed to be paid by them.

Because the store got the toys and knew the supplier expected the store to cover the shipping cost, the store is responsible for paying that shipping fee.
