§ 856 Cpr Instructor Continuing Education

Key Takeaways

  • •If you have a license that needs continuing education to renew, you can get 1 unit of credit for taking a CPR or AED instructor course once every renewal period.
  • •The CPR or AED course must be from the American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or another well-known program that follows the latest guidelines.
  • •You can also get up to 2 units of credit for teaching CPR or AED to school or community college employees once every renewal period.
  • •This rule only applies if your licensing board allows these courses to count for continuing education.

Example

A nurse needs to renew her license and must complete 30 hours of continuing education. She takes a CPR instructor course from the American Red Cross.

She can use 1 hour of that CPR course to count toward her 30-hour requirement. She can do this once every time she renews her license.
