§ 8001 Board Member Terms Appointment

Key Takeaways

  • •Board members serve for 4 years, but they can stay a little longer if no one replaces them.
  • •No one can be on the board for more than 2 terms in a row, unless a special rule says it's okay.
  • •If a spot on the board opens up, someone new is picked to finish the rest of that term.
  • •The Governor and other leaders pick who gets to be on the board, and they can also remove them.

Example

Imagine a school board where members are supposed to serve for 4 years.

If one member quits early, someone new is chosen to finish their time. The Governor picks some members, and if they don’t do a good job, the Governor can ask them to leave.
