§ 7884 Expired Geology License Renewal

Key Takeaways

  • •If you don't renew your geologist or geophysicist license for 5 years after it expires, you can't just renew it anymore.
  • •To get a new license, you must not have done anything bad that would stop you from getting a license in the first place.
  • •You also have to take and pass the same test as someone applying for the first time.
  • •Sometimes, the board might let you skip the test or give you a discount on the fee.

Example

A geologist named Alex lets their license expire in 2018 and doesn't renew it for 6 years.

Alex can't just renew the old license. They have to apply for a new one, pass the test again, and make sure they haven't broken any rules that would stop them from getting a license.

§ 7884 Expired Geology License Renewal

Certificates of licensure as a geologist or as a geophysicist or certified specialty certificates which are not renewed within five years after expiration shall not be renewed, restored, reinstated, or reissued thereafter. The holder of that certificate may apply for and obtain a new certificate, however, if: (a) He or she has not committed any acts or crimes constituting grounds for denial of licensure under Section 480. (b) He or she takes and passes the examination, if any, which would be required of him or her if he or she were then applying for the certificate for the first time. The board may, by regulation, provide for the waiver or refund of all or any part of the application fee in those cases in which a certificate is issued without an examination pursuant to this section. (Amended by Stats. 2016, Ch. 236, Sec. 21. (SB 1165) Effective January 1, 2017.)
