§ 6225 Legal Aid Funding Rules

Key Takeaways

  • •The State Bar makes rules to help poor people get free legal help, especially old people, disabled people, kids, and people who don’t speak English.
  • •Before making the rules, the State Bar must show a draft to banks, lawyers, and groups that might get the money.
  • •The State Bar must hold at least two public meetings—one in northern California and one in southern California—to let people talk about the rules before they are final.

Example

A group that helps disabled people needs money to give free legal advice. The State Bar is making new rules about who can get this money.

The State Bar has to show the draft rules to banks, lawyers, and groups like this one. Then, they hold meetings in places like Los Angeles and San Francisco so people can say if the rules are fair or need changes.
