§ 6168 Law Corporation Investigations

Key Takeaways

  • •The State Bar can check how a law company is running its business.
  • •They can ask for papers, talk to people, and make them answer questions under oath, just like in a court case.
  • •Everything they find out is secret and can't be shared, unless they later tell the company to stop doing something wrong.

Example

Imagine a group of lawyers running a company, but someone thinks they're not following the rules.

The State Bar can look into it, ask for their files, and talk to the lawyers. But they can't tell anyone what they found, unless they later tell the company to stop breaking the rules.
