§ 5221 Outdoor Advertising Sign Definition

Key Takeaways

  • •A 'sign' is anything like paper, wood, or metal used for outdoor ads, placed on the ground, trees, walls, or buildings.
  • •Some signs are not counted as 'signs' under this law, like official notices from the government or courts.
  • •Directional or warning signs required by law are also not counted as 'signs'.
  • •Signs near city or county borders showing the name of the place or local groups are also not counted as 'signs'.

Example

You put up a big wooden sign in your yard to advertise your lemonade stand.

This sign is counted as a 'sign' under the law because it's an outdoor ad. But if you put up a sign showing the name of your town and local groups, it's not counted as a 'sign'.
