§ 3615 Severability Of Provisions

Key Takeaways

  • •If one part of this law is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the rest of the law can still be used.
  • •This law is like a set of building blocks—if one block is broken, the others can still stand.
  • •This rule helps keep the rest of the law working even if a small part has problems.

Example

Imagine a law that says you can't park in certain spots, but one part of the law says you can't park near fire hydrants for 10 feet, and another part says you can't park near crosswalks for 20 feet.

If a court says the 20-foot rule near crosswalks is unfair, the 10-foot rule near fire hydrants can still be enforced. The rest of the parking rules don’t disappear just because one part is invalid.
