§ 1951 Dental Hygienist Probation Terms

Key Takeaways

  • •If a dentist or dental hygienist does something wrong, the board can put them on probation.
  • •They might have to take extra classes or tests to prove they can do their job right.
  • •The board can make them see a doctor if they think the person has a health problem that affects their work.
  • •They might have to pay back money to patients if they charged too much or did something wrong.
  • •Instead of stopping them from working, the board might make them do community service if the mistake wasn’t about bad care.

Example

A dental hygienist keeps hurting patients because they don’t clean teeth the right way.

The board can make them take extra classes to learn the right way. If they still don’t do it right, the board might say they can only do easy cleanings and nothing complicated. They might also have to pay back money if they charged for work they didn’t do well.

(c) Restricting or limiting the extent, scope, or type of practice of the licensee.
