§ 19482 Nonprofit Horse Racing License Ban

Key Takeaways

  • •Nonprofit groups that don’t pay taxes can’t get a license to run horse races.
  • •If someone wants to run a horse race to help a nonprofit or share money with them, they can’t get a license either.
  • •The rule doesn’t apply to companies that already had a license before September 7, 1955—they can still get one.

Example

A local charity wants to host a horse race to raise money for their programs.

The charity can’t get a license to run the race because they’re a nonprofit that doesn’t pay taxes. Even if a friend tries to get the license and give the charity some of the money, that’s not allowed either.
