§ 1808 Dental Corporation Ownership Rules

Key Takeaways

  • •Dental companies must have rules for what happens if someone who owns part of the company can't be an owner anymore (like if they die or lose their license).
  • •The company or the other owners must buy back the shares from that person within a certain time.
  • •Dental companies must have insurance or some other way to pay if a patient sues them for bad dental work.

Example

A dentist who owns part of a dental company dies.

The company or the other owners must buy back the shares from the dentist's family within the time set by the rules. Also, if a patient sues the company because of a bad tooth filling, the company must have insurance to pay for that.
