§ 1753 Registered Dental Assistant Licensing

Key Takeaways

  • •To become a registered dental assistant in extended functions, you must already be a licensed dental assistant.
  • •You need to pass a background check, take extra classes, and pass a test.
  • •You must also have a current basic life support certification.
  • •If you have extra permits (like for orthodontics), you still need to keep up with your regular training.

Example

A dental assistant wants to do more advanced tasks like putting sealants on teeth.

They must first be a licensed dental assistant, take extra classes approved by the board, pass a test, and have a basic life support certification. If they don’t do these things, they can’t do the extra tasks.
