§ 12720 Altering Weighmaster Certificate Weights

Key Takeaways

  • •If a truck or its load is weighed and the weight is written on a special paper (weighmaster certificate), you can't change the truck's empty weight before figuring out how much stuff it's carrying.
  • •The empty weight of the truck must stay the same until the weight of what it's carrying is written down on the paper.
  • •It's against the law to mess with the truck's empty weight before the total weight is officially recorded.

Example

A truck driver takes his truck to a weigh station to get a certificate showing how much his load of apples weighs. The truck's empty weight is written down first.

If the driver tries to change the empty weight of the truck before the apples are weighed, he is breaking the law. The empty weight must stay the same until the weight of the apples is written on the certificate.
